Artist Classification
Professional: is an artist who meets 2 or more of the following criteria:
1) sold artwork through commercial channels (including galleries, on-line galleries, craft shows, art shows, etc.)
2) has been exhibiting their work for 2 or more years in professional galleries and/or professional art exhibits**
3) had work selected in 2 or more juried art or craft shows**
4) has received 2 or more awards for their artwork **
5) holds (or has held) professional membership in a guild or association.
Non-Professional: is an artist who does not meet 2 or more of the above criteria.
** Exceptions: Any artist who only enters their County Senior Art Show and who never exhibits artwork in any other show or venue do not have to identify as a Professional Artist.

NOTE: Photos of Artwork
We would like to make a video of all the work submitted for the county show. In additional, the state is requesting photos of all first-place work from our show. If you already have a great photo of the item(s) you are submitting, email it to Annette Devitt at amdevitt@comcast.net. The on-line registration form also allows you to upload a photo there. If a photo is not received prior to the show, artwork will be photographed at the show.

CONTEST RULES
General Rules
- Open to all Salem County Artists, 60 years and up.
- Artwork must be no older than 3 years. (To enter the 2022Senior Art Show, work must have been completed between April 2019 to the present.)
- Artists may enter only one work per category up to 3 entries. Categories include: Acrylic Painting, Craft, Digital/Computer Art, Mixed Media, Oil Painting, Pastel, Photography, Print, Sculpture, Watercolor, and Works on Paper.
- Entries winning first place automatically advance to the State Competition. Entries that place "First" must be available to go to the New Jersey Senior Citizen Art Show through October 28, 2022.
- There are separate contests for Professional and Non-Professional Artists.
- Any entry with a dollar value exceeding $400 must have private insurance.
Registration Options
- Option 1 - Register online, mailed, emailed prior to August 23
- -Complete the form online at https://surveymonkey.com/r/SCSeniorArt2022 or mail the attached form to Annette Devitt. NOTE: All show paperwork will be pre-printed and available when you drop off artwork for participants who register online or whose mailed/emailed forms are received prior to August 23.
- Option 2 – Register August 25 at First Baptist Church
- -Complete the form when you arrive or bring completed form with you.
Artwork/Display Rules
- Hanging artwork, photos or crafts must be no more than 30” and no less than 10” in any dimension, including matting and framing.
- Sculpture or 3-D crafts may not exceed 20” in any dimension (measurements must include any base for the sculpture).
- Work should not exceed 30 pounds in weight.
- All artwork must be the original creation of the artist. No reproductions (such as giclee or other digital copies) of original artwork will be accepted. Of course, entries in the Photography or Digital Arts categories may be digital prints.
- No work made using kits or copies of another person’s artwork will be accepted.
- All works are to be delivered “show ready.” Any 2-D work must be matted, framed, and wired (with screw eyes) ready for hanging. Any artwork with sawtooth hangers will be accepted for display only. Paintings on canvas must be wired for hanging and the edges should be painted or finished, but they do not need to be framed. The 2-D artwork should be protected where necessary with Plexiglas, Mylar, glass or other clear protective material. All work must be properly labeled at the back (or at the bottom, if 3-D). Labels will be available at registration.
- Use of Plexiglas, not glass in strongly recommended for 2-D work to avoid damage to artwork. Plexiglas (not glass) is required for any 2-D pieces over 24” in any dimension.

Medium Categories
- Acrylic Painting
- Craft - one-of-a-kind original creations only. NO craft kits or molds.
- Digital/Computer Art – artwork generated or altered using computer graphics software. (Does not include digital photographs.)
- Mixed media - art that combines two or more media, not one of which clearly predominates: includes collage and assemblage. (Please note materials below.)
- Oil Painting
- Pastel - includes chalk (soft) and oil pastel.
- Prints - includes all print forms including etching, linoleum, block, lithograph, woodcut, monoprint, silkscreen etc.
- Photography - includes color, black & white or tinted photographs taken with a film-based or digital camera.
- Sculpture - any work designed in 3-dimensions, carved or constructed in any medium, abstract or figurative, painted or unpainted.
- Watercolor - includes gouache. (Note: traditional watercolor often includes light pencil work and/or ink. They are still considered “Watercolor” – NOT “mixed media”)
- Works on Paper - includes hand-drawn work in mediums including charcoal colored pencil, graphite, pen & ink.
